Because of the way the season runs for the shooting sports, this team is made up of students from the 2009-2010 school year. This was the last shoot of their high school career for Eric M., Cindy C., and Taylor C. Best of luck to them as they begin the next leg of their journey.

As for me, this was also my last shoot as the Kearney Trapshooting coach. I will be working in a different district next year and it makes it difficult for me to do this as well. I have thoroughly enjoyed the program and working with the student-athletes that took part in this non-traditional sport. I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with some outstanding young men and women over the past three years! I want to thank all the parents for the support of their children and the help along the way. In addition, I want to recognize the Kearney School District Board, its past superintendent Dr. Chris Belcher and current superintendent Dr. Bill Nicely for the opportunity to do this. I appreciate that all of these individuals were willing to offer this to the student population of Kearney. I believe the program reached some that might not have ever participated in a school related program.

Scores continue to increase overall. Updated averages are below.

I was really proud of the 10 shooters that we took to compete. They handled the weather conditions with a positive attitude and truly demonstrated a maturity that made me proud to be their coach. Everyone tried their best to find a positive in the day. Our first team posted a respectful score of 439/500 (87.8%) in horrible shooting conditions. I currently do not know how that placed overall, I will share once I find out that information. Our second team posted an overall score of 384/500 (76.8%).

Individually Eric Meier on Team 1 broke an outstanding 97/100. There was one 100 straight and several 99s and one 98 in his class category so he was just edged out of trophy competition. Either way, it was still a great day for Eric.

We have a great group of shooters for the Kearney Spring Trapshooting Program. I really appreciate the help from the parents as well. Having the practices on Sunday has certainly yielded some benefits. Really pleased to see the new faces on the team this season. We have 8 new shooters that have never participated before. It’s always nice to see new faces on the trap line. Welcome to our new shooters!
